Poultry
Raising chickens is a great way of generating income as
well as providing nutrition for the family. In Uganda one
chicken cost one US dollar, plus the cost of the poultry
house, ongoing feeds and immunizations. After 6 months, a
chicken will lay for one year and can then be sold for
meat for $3US dollars. During that year it will produce
about 280 eggs that also can be sold. After taking away
costs plus allowing for the family to have some eggs, one
chicken can generate $20 for that year.
